Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0ST No.555 - a photo on Flickriver

            Standing at the end of the line at Beamish Museum is Hudswell Clark (Leeds,UK) 0-6-0ST No.555 of 1901, a recent short-term visitor to the museum.

The shunter started life at the Port Talbot Railway & Docks Company as their No.26. The docks operation was taken over by Great Western Railway in 1908 and, when the operation was fully absorbed into GWR in 1922, this locomotive became GWR 813.

In 1934 the engine was sold to Backworth Collieries in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and was later absorbed into the fleet of the newly formed National Coal Board. In 1967 it was sold into preservation and restored to it's GWR 813 persona.

The engine was most recently returned to steam in 2016, after a six-year overhaul. It is still owned by the GWR 813 Preservation fund and is currently based at the Severn Valley Railway.
