Indiana, Michigan City, Michigan City Lighthouse, Lake Michigan (2,119)

            The lighthouse was built 1858.  The light became obsolete in 1904 with the completion of the East Pierhead Light.  The keepers and family lived in the building until 1940.  After the keepers moved out the building was virtually abandoned and suffered from neglect and vandalism.  A local group came together to restore the structure and converted it into a museum.  The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
