Wyoming, Crook County, Aladdin Coal Tipple

            Built in 1898, the Aladdin Coal Tipple served as a key point for loading coal mined near Aladdin onto railroad cars.  The coal was loaded into the coal bin- the upper, gabled structure- and then allowed to run down the chute and sorted based on size before entering waiting railroad cars.  The coal was shipped through Belle Fourche, South Dakota, to gold smelters in Lead and Deadwood, South Dakota. After the mines shut down, the tipple was left abandoned and became a safety hazard. Local preservationists took action to stabilize the structure, ensuring it could remain standing. It is said to be one of the last wooden tipples still standing in the West.
