Commissioned Bachelor Officers Quarters, U. S. Army, Fort Baker, California; Golden Gate National Recreation Area; Cavallo Point, The Lodge at the Golden Gate

            Most of the buildings on Fort Baker were built between 1902 and 1910 around the post's main parade ground. From 1907 to 1950 the post was home to Coast Artillery soldiers that manned nearby coastal batteries for harbor defense of San Francisco.  

The buildings were designed in the Colonial Revival architectural style, with the symmetrical "U" shape, and the front of the structure having classical elements, such as columns, pediments and porches.  The land area of Fort Baker was transferred to the National Park Service in 1995.  The last military presence left in 2000. 

During 2005-2006, many of the housings units on the former base were converted to luxury hotel accommodations and private suites, including meeting and conference facilities.  Fort Baker is on the National Register of Historic Places.
