Foggy Oregon Coast, USA - a photo on Flickriver

About this photo:  We had planned another little camping trip and didn't reserve anything ahead.  We went to Oregon, USA and wanted to stay in the area near Portland for some shopping and drive to the Oregon Coast from there for some wonderful ocean views.  It was very hot in Portland, about 38C (100.5F), so we decided to stay in a hotel instead of staying in our camper which would be too hot at night for the dog (and for us).  We still found something for a decent price with air conditioned rooms and breakfast included, even better.

On one of the days we traveled out to the coast on a sunny day and when we stopped at our first viewpoint (Silver Point Interpretive Overlook), there really wasn't any view due to the dense fog.  We were so disappointed, but we moved on to the next spot which was Hug Point State Recreation Site.  We got lucky to get a parking spot as someone just pulled out to leave.  We walked down to the beach and there wasn't much of a view here either due to the fog, but the fog made it look so eerie and actually quite beautiful.  We enjoyed a walk on the beach here and love the views we had even though it was quite foggy.

Some information about the Oregon Coast : The Oregon Coast is the coast of the U.S. state of Oregon along the Pacific Ocean, constituting the western border of the state. Stretching 583km/362mi from the city of Astoria to the California border, the Oregon Coast is unique in that the entire coast is public land. Oregon law prohibits private ownership of coastline property.

The Oregon Coast is often divided into three regions
•The North Coast—from the Washington border at Astoria to Lincoln City.
•The Central Coast—from Lincoln City to Reedsport.
•The South Coast—from Reedsport to the California border, just south of Brookings.

There are no large cities on the coast, mainly due to the lack of deep harbors with access to the inland agricultural areas. The largest metropolitan area consists of the bordering cities of Coos Bay and North Bend on the South Coast. This area has a population of approximately 25,000 people. There is only one continuous highway along the coastline, the U.S. Route 101. The relative isolation of the coast from nearby large population centers has given the coast a reputation for being somewhat rustic, being a mixture of old logging towns, fishing villages, seasonal resorts, and artists' colonies. Tourism, fishing and logging are the major industries on the coast. The coastal region's popularity, combined with the fact that there are only a few two-lane roads from the more populated areas in the Willamette Valley contributes to traffic to the north and central coasts being named the worst tourist traffic in the United States.
