Tiger Cake - a photo on Flickriver

Tiger Cake

            I  had always admired this tiger cake in a Lindy Smith book (party animal cakes), but had been  intimidated by it.  When I got an order for a tiger cake, I decided to go for it.  I was intimidated for good reason because I think it was a bit over my skill level.  Her method of piecing the fondant together did not work for me.  I have no idea how she makes it appear so seamless!  After 2 or 3 failed attempts of piecing the fondant together,  I decided to cover the cake in one big piece instead, which was much easier for me.   My painting was also not what I had hoped.  Overall I am satisfied though.  

Oh and I dyed the cake batter orange and marbled it with chocolate so that it's "tiger" on the inside too :)  I thought that would make for a fun surprise when they cut it!
