The chairs, Gloucester Cathedral - a photo on Flickriver

            Gloucester Cathedral has a modern suite of furniture in the nave. Here are three items from it. It was created by Waywood Furniture Creation:-

'Waywood Furniture Creation

Waywood Furniture Creation is a small team based in Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, which has been designing and making pieces of furniture to commission since 1986.

The designers aim to work in sympathy with the wood, employing its natural warmth and feel. The company prides itself on the care with which it makes every piece, so that it will last hundreds of years, employing designs which will last the test of time.

Important to the team is the choice of woods (from sustainable sources), the preference for solid wood and natural finishes like oil which will improve with age rather than deteriorate.

They also place great emphasis on fitness for purpose, and the appropriateness of a piece for its setting.

One maker will be responsible for any one job, right from the initial marking and cutting of the wood through to the application of the finish. This approach means that every piece is individual.'
