1956 Oldsmobile 88 4-Door Sedan, #1

            Nope. Still not Havana. This is the south side of Chicago, and with warmer weather, the cool old cars are coming out of the woodwork.

This is my kind of car; the way a '56 Olds would have looked after 7 or 8 hard years on Chicago streets. In the early and mid-sixties, only old people and those who couldn't afford anything newer would have been driving a car like this. Trust me on that point; from 1965 to 1968, my family, which was going through a very rough financial period, had a '58 Chevy Biscayne which, to my classmates, was just a POS old car. I hated that car with every fiber of my pre-adolescent being, and the day when we took delivery of a brand-new '68 Impala was one of the happiest of my life.

I say all that to say this: Our view of these cars or any old cars as classics and collectibles is a relatively recent phenomenon. In 1970, you could buy a '65 Mustang convertible, in mint condition, for less than a fifth of its original purchase price. But there were new and used ponycar convertibles on dealer lots and for sale by owners all over America.

You won't be getting that kind of deal with a mint-condition used 2011 Mustang convertible in 2016, I can guarantee you. And not because it's in any better shape than that 5-year-old '65.
