1960 Chrysler 300F Convertible

            Of course, no car show would be complete without an appearance by one of Virgil Exner's "Forward Look" Mopars -- in this case, a 1960 Chrysler 300F convertible.

The Forward Look appeared on Chrysler products in 1955, and was accentuated for 1957, with huge, outward canted fins that were given a different identity at each of Chrysler's five divisions. Front torsion bars, a Chrysler mainstay for the next 30 years, made their debut that year.

In 1960, the full-size cars went from body-on-frame to unit body construction; most buyers never knew the difference, since the 1960 had such similar styling to the 1959's.

Exner stuck with his fins through 61, when they began being lopped off, first from the Plymouth, then from Dodges, Chryslers and Imperials. By 1962, Exner himself would be gone, done in by lukewarm response to his restyled, downsized, bizarrely styled full-size 1962 Plymouths and Dodges. They were heavily restyled the next year, and in 1965, with the debut of much larger full-size Mopars, they were demoted to intermediates.
