Submarine in country! Prepare to dive. HMAS Otway well away from the sea at Holbrook, NSW

            The original name of the town was 10 Mile Creek. In 1875, it was renamed Germanton. Hailed as unpatriotic, it was renamed Holbrook in August 1915 after Lt. Norman Douglas Holbrook, a British submariner and VC recipient.

HMAS Otway is one of four Oberon class submarines of the Royal Australian Navy, commissioned in 1968 and decommissioned in 1994. The fin was initially donated to Holbrook. Money raising attempted to fund the purchase of the submarine but because of insufficient funds, it was sold to Sims Metal for scrap in 1995. The money was eventually used to purchase the casing, everything above the water line when surfaced plus the tail section. It was brought in by semi-trailer, reassembled in Germanton Park and rededicated as a submarine on 7 June 1997.
