31 236 Peterborough - a photo on Flickriver

            Well this is a bit of a strange one for me. My notes seem to have been non-existent on the detail for this picture, but by virtue of it being next on the film to a photo recently uploaded of 55016 on 3/12/81, I am assuming this is the same day. 
The loco is definitely 31236, a stalwart of March depot and as it was not out on the Norwich - Birmingham circuit that day, I have come to the conclusion that this is the 12.40 from Harwich Parkeston Quay on arrival at Peterborough. The information screen looks like it has the word 'terminates' on it which would fit.  It certainly looks like a dull December day hence the grainy finish and a lot of work having been expended to make (hopefully) a reasonable job of a very scratched neg.
 31236 was one of my favourite Class 31s and was later to become 31433 when equipped with ETH equipment in 1984. By this time in 1981 it was one of only 15 Class 31s left in traffic with gangway doors in situ.
