Algonquin Trades Building, Nov. 10 2011

            This is a 4x5 film image of the new Trades Building of Algonquin College.

It was taken using a 4x5 Sinar camera. This is where my appreciation of such cameras comes from: the lines of the building are corrected in terms perspective. 
In other words it doesn't look like you're looking up at it, or like it's falling away from you the further you look up at it; you can't correct that with a digital camera, unless you use a tilt-shift lens on an SLR. Those are expensive, rare, and still not nearly as effective because you can't rise/fall/swing/tilt the digital sensor in the camera like you can with the film plane in the 4x5 camera. You can only shift/move the lens, not the backing.

I also like this image (which was taken for an assignment) because it gives it a sort of authenticity to it - I almost prefer film to digital, and just the way it was corrected and the timing. I started the photography program the year this building opened up. We're the first beginning students to record the building on film (and perspective-corrected) using these cameras. Looking at it from a documentative/posterity point of view, anyway, which I tend to view photographs from.
This image is scanned at 1200dpi and contrast was added.
