Shornemead Fort guardhouse. - a photo on Flickriver

            I used to walk out (or back) from Gravesend along the path by the Thames & Medway Canal, sometimes to the road that lead through Shorne Marshes to the River Thames, thence to Shornemead Fort and depending on my whim, further out or back to Gravesend along the river...
At either end of the road through the marshes are brick guard posts, this one the closer to the fort, slowly being swallowed by bramble bushes, but still in use to store used beer cans.
