Castello di Masino - l'ingresso - a photo on Flickriver

            Il castello di Masino, a Caravino, fu la residenza principale dei conti Valperga, antica famiglia del Canavese, e fino al Rinascimento era difeso da alte mura e imponenti torri di guardia poi abbattute per far posto a monumentali e splendidi giardini di fattezze romantiche e tipiche dell'Italia aristocratica.

L'intero edificio è letteralmente ricoperto da affreschi, mobili di raffinatissima fattura e sede d'un museo di carrozze settecentesche davvero straordinario.

Attualmente il castello è gestito dal Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano.

Le scuderie sono state restaurate di recente; ospitavano parecchi cavalli, e sopra le mangiatoie ci sono ancora i nomi degli ultimi ospiti (Victory la mangiatoia di sx); tra una mangiatoia e l'altra, un decoro trompe l'oeil che riprende il motivo delle colonnine che delimitavano lo spazio riservato a ciascun animale.
