Sabbioneta, la Galleria degli Antichi - The Gallery of the Ancients in Sabbioneta

            La Galleria degli Antichi a Sabbioneta (Mn) è un edificio costruito tra il 1584 ed il 1586 per essere il contenitore delle collezioni del duca Vespasiano I Gonzaga, il fondatore di questa città. 
La raccolta, che comprendeva marmi antichi e anche trofei di caccia, rimase all’interno dell’edificio fino al 1773, quando fu trasferita nel palazzo dell’Accademia di Mantova. 
Oggi i marmi restaurati sono esposti nella galleria di Palazzo Ducale e in Palazzo San Sebastiano, entrambi nel capoluogo.

The Gallery of the Ancients in Sabbioneta (near Mantua town, Northern Italy) is a building built between 1584 and 1586 to be the container of the collections of the Duke Vespasiano I Gonzaga, the founder of this city. 
The collection, which included ancient marbles and hunting trophies, remained inside the building until 1773, when it was transferred to the Academy of Mantua building. 
Today the restored marble is exhibited in the Palazzo Ducale gallery and in Palazzo San Sebastiano, both in the Mantua town.
