Castiglione del Lago - a photo on Flickriver

            Castiglione del Lago è una nota località turistica sulle sponde del Lago Trasimeno, in provincia di Perugia: sorge su di un sperone calcareo che in origine era la quarta isola del lago ma, in seguito all'abbassamento del livello delle acque e al crearsi di una pianura di tipo alluvionale, assunse infine l'attuale configurazione.
Sullo sfondo si vede la Rocca del Leone (XIII sec. ma più volte rimaneggiata nei secoli successivi), dominata da un torrione triangolare alto 39 metri.

Castiglione del Lago is a renowned picturesque town on the shores of Lake Trasimeno (Italy, in the Umbria region): it rises on a limestone outcrop which was originally the fourth island of the lake but, following a drop in water level and to create a alluvial plains, finally took on its current configuration.
In the background you can see the Rocca del Leone (XIII sec. but much altered in later centuries), dominated by a triangular tower 39 meters high.
