Il chiostro di Chiaravalle - Chiaravalle's cloister

            L’abbazia di Chiaravalle sorge a sud di Milano, in aperta campagna sebbene in linea d’aria disti solo pochi km da Piazza del Duomo; è uno dei maggiori complessi cistercensi italiani. 
La chiesa primitiva venne fondata da Bernardo abate di Clairvaux nel 1135, ma nei secoli successivi tutto il complesso venne rimaneggiato a più riprese. 
Nel 1798, a seguito della soppressione napoleonica, i monaci vennero allontanati e iniziò una fase di degrado: verso la fine dell’800 incominciarono i primi lavori di restauro e finalmente nel 1952 la comunità cistercense prese di nuovo possesso del complesso. 
Solo la parte del chiostro adiacente alla chiesa (a destra nell’immagine) è originale (XIII sec.), gli altri lati sono stati fatti ricostruiti.

The Chiaravalle abbey is located in the south part of Milan, in the countryside although there are only a few km between it and Milan Cathedral (Duomo) in the center of the town. 
It is one of the most important Cistercian complex in Italy. 
The primitive church was founded by Bernardo of Clairvaux in 1135, but in the next centuries all the complex was restored several times. Only the part of the cloister adjacent to the church (the right side in the photo) is the original one and date back to the XIII cent., the other sides were rebuilt.
