Sh2-106 è una nebulosa ad emissione nella costellazione del Cigno. La sua caratteristica più evidente è la forma spiccatamente bipolare, tanto che quando venne scoperta nel 1946 si pensava che fosse una nebulosa planetaria,
Al centro delle nebulosa si trova una stella molto giovane di grande massa circondata da un disco di polveri: la radiazione proveniente da questa stella ionizza il gas nelle sue vicinanze, mentre le regioni più lontane riflettono semplicemente la sua luce. I lobi sono composti da materiale in espansione e sono separati da una fascia di nubi non illuminate.
Tutta questa zona è sede di fenomeni di formazione stellare.
La stima comunemente accettata per la distanza di questa nebulosa è di 1950 anni luce.

Sh2-106 is an emission nebula visible in the constellation Cygnus.
Its most evident characteristic is its markedly bipolar shape: indeed, when it was discovered in 1946 it was believed to be a planetary nebula.
The center of the nebula hosts a very young star of great mass surrounded by a disk of dust; the radiation from this star ionizes the gas in its vicinity, while the more remote regions simply reflect its light.
The lobes are composed of expanding material and are separated by a band of unilluminated clouds.
All this area is home to star formation phenomena.
The most widely accepted estimate for the distance of this nebula is about 1950 light years.
