Due chiese antiche - Two ancient churches

            Al centro della piccola e quieta isola di Torcello (Laguna Veneta, Venezia) si trovano due importanti testimonianze storiche: la Basilica di S. Maria Assunta (a destra nell’immagine, vicino al campanile) e la chiesa di S. Fosca (a sinistra). 
La Basilica venne edificata a partire dal 639, come recita una iscrizione a fianco dell’altare maggiore: al suo interno si trova un ricco apparato decorativo risalente al XI-XIII secolo, tra cui bellissimi mosaici. 
S. Fosca invece risale al 1100.

At the center of the small and quiet island of Torcello (Venetian Lagoon, Italy) there are important historical buildings: the Basilica of S. Maria Assunta (right in the image, near the bell-tower) and the church of Santa Fosca (left).
The Basilica was built starting in 639, as stated in a main altar inscription: inside, there is a rich decoration dating from the eleventh to the thirteenth century, including beautiful mosaics.
S. Fosca instead dates back to 1100.
