            Uno scatto fatto dal balcone di Villa Carlotta a Tremezzo, sul Lago di Como.
La villa fu fatta costruire alla fine del 1600 dal marchese Giorgio Clerici.
All’inizio del XIX sec. divenne proprietà di Gian Battista Sommaria, abile politico amico di Napoleone e collezionista d’arte. Con lui la villa si arricchì con capolavori di scultura, tra cui opere di Canova e di Thorvaldsen
Nel 1850 la Villa divenne dalla principessa Marianna di Orange-Nassau che la donò alla figlia Carlotta quando sposò Giorgio II, duca di Sachsen-Meiningen. Purtroppo Carlotta non riuscì a godere a lungo del suo regalo in quanto morì giovanissima di parto nel 1855, a soli 24 anni.
Fu merito di tale duca una cura particolare del giardino: infatti il duca, appassionato di botanica, si prodigò per lo sviluppo e l'arricchimento del giardino, che oggi è di grande pregio storico ed architettonico; nel parco sono presenti oltre 150 varietà di azalee, ma ci sono anche antiche camelie, cedri e sequoie secolari, platani ed essenze esotiche. In tempi più recenti la villa è stata affidata ad un apposito ente che ne ha ulteriormente valorizzato il museo e i notevoli giardini.
Sullo sfondo (vedi note) sono visibili la penisola di Bellagio e Villa Melzi, anch'essa dotata di un bel giardino.

A shot taken from the balcony of Villa Carlotta, on the shores of Como Lake (Northern Italy). 
It is very famous for the several art works inside it (mainly sculptures) and the big botanical garden.
The Villa was built around the end of 1600. In 1850 the princess Marianna di Orange-Nassau gave it as a present to the daughter Carlotta on the occasion of her wedding with the Duke Giorgio II from Sachsen-Meiningen. Unfortunately Carlotta was not able to enjoy her gift as he died very young in 1855 at the age of 24 years.
The Duke was passionated in botanics, this explains the development and the enrichment of the garden, which includes today more than 150 varieties of azaleas and many different types of trees.
On the background it is visible Bellagio's peninsula and Villa Melzi, which has a nice garden too.
