► █░▓    🍒🍇WILD BLACKBERRIE PATHWAY

In their early teens my mother and her sister painted lovely small aquarelles of various berries in the countryside. I don't know if that was from memory or looking at the plants where they lived. My grandparents kept those framed on the wall until they died. As a child I admired those small charming paintings very much. Before I became a teenager I realised how special that sensitivity was and tried to do something similar myself. I couldn't get nowhere near close to it. But I developed a special liking for all sorts of berries, and for aquarelle painting technique. Where I lived the first half of my life, very close to a nature paradise, there would be delicious wild blackberries in September. One complete life later we moved. In a more urban settings they were hard to find. When my son was four we found some out on a stroll and I remember how happy and astonished he was by the taste of them. He said that was the most delicious something "he has ever tasted". For me, his four years of life were something like an eternity. Probably to him even more. Now many years after, I missed the blackberries. The kind you buy in the grocery is genetically manipulated, suspiciously big and tasteless. Also miss I do my son, badly. 

Two years ago I saw one of mum's aquarelles kept in my uncle's house. 

If I had to choose only one image in this series that would represent the most satisfying aspect of my only hike this July, this one would be it. I found the fairy-tale pathway right behind the backshore when roaming along the beaches of Natuurgebied Sleeuwijkerwaard (the nature resort). At the both sides there were ripe wild blackberries, abundant and easily accessible for picking without even a need to step aside and get tangled in the thorns. And they're so clean there that you could easily consume them right away without washing. 

Lumix G90 / Lumix 12-35 mm f2.8. —At 25mm (50mm full frame equivalent) and f5,6 aperture priority. Shutter speed of 1/320 sec. This is a sooc jpeg edited in Apple Photos 10.0, uncropped. Exported as 16-bit tiff.
