Shortia galacifolia (Oconee bells) - a photo on Flickriver

            These guys just started to flower at this site last week and were a real treat to see. I drove to the park on a rainy and snowy morning and found them just after sunrise, with the flowers still closed up. By the time I got my camera gear the rain had cleared and the flowers were open, with nice light helping me out in the still air down by the creek. Devil's Fork State Park, Oconee County, South Carolina.
