Point Reyes Lighthouse - a photo on Flickriver

            This lighthouse is located in the Point Reyes National Seashore and is one of the highlights in the park.  There is a visitor center with a park ranger that can answer all your questions concerning the history of the area.  The lighthouse was built in 1870 and was used for 105 years until it was retired in 1975.

There is a water catch above these stairs that was used to collect water for a steam engine that was used to power the lighthouse.  The park ranger told us that it didn't work all that well because the weather didn't always cooperate and there were periods of time when no rain fell.  

The stairs that you see in this picture are 30 stories down and of course another 30 on the way back up.  The wind was gusting over 30 mph when were here and they weren't letting people walk down to the lighthouse.  That was fine with me because with my old body I wasn't going to try it.  They would have to bring a helicopter out to bring me back up.
