66 511 and 66 557 at Tyne Yard. - a photo on Flickriver

            With the VQ (Virtual Quarry) reopened and a new HOOB (High Output Operations Base) established in the later part of 2014 in Tyne Yard there is once again shunting activity in what is left of Tyne Yard. This is after a period of several years where it was just used for staging run through trains and destaffed. DB Schenker now provide the yard staff and shunt driver while FLHH provide the locomotives as they have the contract on the ECML for the HOBC (High Output Ballast Cleaner). One FLHH class 66 is usually on hand for shunting while two more are available to work the HOBC which is out most nights with a loco either end. This pair, 66 511 and 66 557 are stood in the Down Departures Sidings where FLHH have established a traincrew depot in the old C&W offices to the right next to the DB Schenker owned former control tower.
