40 160 with 5M84/1M84 leaving Ayr. 21/07/84.

            Not a railtour but an empty stock train 5M84 conveying passengers. 40 160 is seen at full bore leaving Ayr station for Carlisle.
40 160 had worked 1S84 the 20.40 FO London Euston to Stranraer Harbour (Relief train  to 1S07) between Carlisle and Stranraer Harbour. It had gained a large enthusiast contingent so on reaching Stranraer at 05.45 instead of returning ECS as 5M84 06.28 to Carlisle Upperby CSD it ran as a passenger service initially to Ayr non stop. As can bee seen here it still has passengers on board after a lengthy wait a Ayr for a crew change. I can only assume it was agreed to extended it as a passenger service through to Carlisle possibly non stop so I assume running as 1M84 or 1Z84.
