Four of a Kind no.1, the type T669. ČD Class 771.

            The diesel locomotive that holds the record for the most prolific type built goes to the Czech type T669. They were built for mainline railways and industrial use with in excess of 8200 examples being built between 1963 and 1992. The main company producing them was ČKD (Českomoraská-Kolben-Daněk) at their factory in Praha. The design was a Soviet Railways specification and SzD ordered vast numbers after the prototype  appeared in 1964. To meet the Soviet order ČKD were stretched to the point most of the Czechoslovakian Railways fleet of T669 was contracted out to SMZ (Strojárske Metalurgické Závod) in Dubnica nad Vahom.
ČSD the Czechoslovak State Railways had two variants T669/0 (119 built) and later classified 770 and T669/1 (203 built) later class 771. The only obvious difference between the two being the bogie design as all had the ČKD K6S 310DR engine rated at 993kW.

In January 1993 ČSD split up in line with the formation of the new Czech Republic and Slovakia, locomotives were divided up primarily on where they were allocated at the time to their respective depots. ZSR the new Slovakian Railways inherited 32 class 770's (T669/0) and 64 class 771's (T669/1) the remainder of each class stayed with ČD the new Czech State Railways.
Here lined up at Ostrava Depot 771 030 leads the line with 771 049, 105 & 051 in line behind. The class 770's and 771's are now pretty well extinct in both countries save for a handful that see occasional use. That said Slovakia had 12 that were sub class 771/8 these were fitted with 1520mm bogies for cross border freight workings into the Ukraine and I believe most of these are still in use.
