A pictorial and bus route map of the district around Bolton : Bolton Corporation Transport : in : A Book of Bolton : nd [c.1957] : Bolton Transport central terminal points

            A few editions of what appears to the Official Handbook to Bolton, issued by the County Borough of Bolton then in Lancashire, take a slightly different form. "A Book of Bolton" contains much of the traditional information found in the usual 'official handbook' but presents it for a more business or trade audience. Alongside an abbreviated history of the manufacturing town there is a description of the modern town and then a significant section on businesses and services in the borough along with numerous adverts. There is no date but it has a feel of the late '50s and thanks to comments elsewhere the bus map is dated to c.1957.

The Book also includes a folding 'pictorial' map of the town and its surroundings including information as to the Corporation Transport Department's bus services. I've had to scan this map in two overlapping sections and a separate scan of the town centre termini. The routes show the various destinations that included, due to joint operations with other undertakings such as Lancashire United Transport, some lengthy runs. Someone with knowledge of the system may well be able to pinpoint a more precise date for the map and this has been confirmed to c.1957.
