Lil' Red Riding Hood - Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs

The theme for "Smile on Saturday" on the 29th of April is "music for the eyes", where images submitted must portray the title of a song.  I was originally going to do one of my favourite childhood and adulthood songs: “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic”, which is a famous song consisting of a melody by American composer John Walter Bratton, written in 1907 with lyrics added by Irish song writer Jimmy Kennedy in 1932.  However, then I realised that I used that for the "Smile on Saturday" theme of "song title" from the 24th of October 2020.  I could have done it again of course, but I wanted to do a different song this time.  As I was contemplating what song I could do, I remembered the song “Lil' Red Riding Hood” written by Ronald Blackwell, made famous by Sam The Sham and The Pharaohs.  Last year I bought a Charles the Wolf plush toy and Little Red Riding Hood rag doll, both made by French toy manufacturer Moulin Roty, from the toy shop in my local high street shopping strip and I have been looking for an excuse to upload a photograph of them to Flickr.  The theme "music for the eyes" seemed the perfect reason to do so.  I have tried to replicate the greenery of the forest with my rose garden which was flooded with golden morning light when I took this shot of the faerie tale pair.  I hope you like my choice of this week’s theme and that it makes you smile!

Little Red Riding Hood (Le Petite Chaperon Rouge) has been hand made by the French toy manufacturer Moulin Roty and comes from their "l était une fois" ("Once Upon a Time") collection.  Little Red Riding Hood is outfitted in a floral patterned cotton dress, trimmed at the hem with sparkly pink tulle.  Her beautiful cape, with a lined hood, is made from red fine corduroy and it is fastened with a plum coloured tie. The outfit is complemented by striped jersey leggings, lace socks and charcoal grey velour shoes finished with satin bows .  Her face and hands are made of a linen weave cotton and her beautiful long plaits are made of jersey. Little Red Riding Hood’s facial features are delicately done, with embroidered eyes and mouth and hand painted nose, freckles and rosy cheeks.
 
Charles the Wolf (Le Loup Charles) has been hand made by the French toy manufacturer Moulin Roty and comes from their "l était une fois" ("Once Upon a Time") collection.  He wears a removable purple coat with a black furry trim and smart fur lined boots.  He also has a big mouth and sharp teeth - all the better to eat you with, my dear!
