Continuing a quest to mark a century of Edinburgh's municipal transport we arrive at Eastfield terminus in 1963 to see a Leyland Titan PD2/12 lay-over there on service 25 as the driver and conductress sit inside. This lay-by at the seafront was first used in 1954 by the 25 and 26 but later extended to cater for an increase in use although today I believe only used for one early 26 journey and for occasional part-route working.

The 25 had commenced in 1937 as a tram service between King's Road and Drum Brae South via Seafield Road, but following a change to buses it was extended to Eastfield and Corstorphine Maybury - no cost in civils as the road was already there (Edinburgh Council need to note when they think about extending their tram-line ! )

Fleet 244 was new in 1952 with exposed radiator but modern 'refinements' gave it a standard front and red seating to make it look similar to the large number of later Leylands, although passengers could still see (and hear) the difference. 244, working from Marine garage was a regular on services 25, 26, and 42 until withdrawal in 1970 when some were purchased by other operators. Most of these buses carried adverts for alcoholic drinks many of which had been around for well over the Council's century. Deerstalker Red Cap whisky was first registered in 1880 by John Thomson of Leith.
