Temple of Hathor, Abu Simbel, Egypt 2016

            Two gigantic figures of Ramses II stand either side of the entrance to this beautiful temple. As always, his left leg is taking a step forward. This is the origin of the command still heard in armies all over the world today "By the left Quick March".
The ancient Egyptians believed that the left side of the body was the most important side because that was where the heart was situated.
