Gothic Treehouse Door - a photo on Flickriver

            Thank goodness for the internet.  She found a blacksmith in Idaho to make the hinges to her design, and a mid-western company producing the huge clavos (nails) for the gothic decorations.

     The oak was from a downed tree in the forest on the top of our mountain, that I slabbed into 2 and 1/2" pieces around 10 years ago.  She planed them to about 1 and 1/2" and cut them into 4 inch boards, reversing every other board to insure stability from warping, and glue joined them using the amazing German Festool machine, the Domino, which produces a significantly greater strength bond than the simpler and more common bisket machines used by most woodworkers.  It hangs true and swings perfectly.  She then routed designs in the back (I will post more stuff later) and it works and seals perfectly.
