BCD Show & Tell Edward Lear Owl & Pussycat Illustrated By Owen Wood DSC05494

            I tracked down this 1970s book, magnificently illustrated by Owen Wood, from seeing a British Jigsaw Library puzzle cut by Dick Sawbridge which used the artwork at a BCD meeting. I bought three second-hand copies and ripped one apart to make scans of some of the illustrations, which were then laboriously cleaned up and the centre spine sections recreated.

The book tells the story of The Owl & the Pussy-Cat in nine double-spread illustrations, and I chose four of them for a series of jigsaws. Two have been made to date by Heather Prydderch of Puzzlewood, who chose to make them 3D-enhanced with exciting outlines and many dropouts.

The second section of the book shows eight of Lear's limericks, some double spread & some single spread illustrations. Genest Le Colimacon has cut three of them for me, as figure-it-out style shaped jigsaws in his extreme line-cut style. Each also has a surround and frame, so I can ring the changes, or even mix them together!
