Lynne C started the show & tell with two Chad Valley jigsaws and a cardboard one all seen here.

Dunlop Series 200pc OHNS Air Force by CF Hopkinson, 1repl. 9x12.5in, supplied in a bookshelf-style box with small colour guide picture. A copy was brought to the November 2022 meeting, and the Feb 2017 House Party - it is the rarest of the Chad Valley Dunlop series.

I was surprised to see that a metallic paint had been used on the print (or when repairing it). 'On His Majesties Service - Royal Airforce', was produced in 1939 just before the outbreak of WW2. (David S only knows of three examples of this rare jigsaw - his own copy has 2repl, using silver & gold enamel paints.)

The Dunlop logo appears very distinctly on the car tyres in the foreground, as well as on the aircraft tyre. Brian Evans made possible identifications of the plane (an "Avro Tutor"), the car (a c1930's "Lagonda") and the most senior officer depicted (Lord Tedder, Marshall of the RAF at around this time). However the Army style uniforms are more reminiscent of the WWI period - an anachronism or artistic licence by the artist.

The other 200pc jigsaws in the Dunlop range of 12 were 'O.H.M.S. Army', 'To the Highest Standard', 'York Minster', 'Westminster'. The branding on these images is charmingly subtle - often on the tyres or advertising posters on a passing bus.
