            The basement is lit by three trefoil shaped windows on this face, which surround an equilateral triangular opening, divided with further triangles.

The first level of windows comprise a cross-shaped slot, each arm terminating in a trefoil of circular panes of glass. Four shields surround each arrangement, with Thomas Tresham's crest (of a boar's-head holding a trefoil) and his shield. Other shields relate to his wider family connections, or are left blank for future connections.

The upper windows consist of trefoils filled with geometric arrangements of triangular panes. Each window has a pair of shields, above which there are letters. On this face they spell TUORUM (part of the sentence MENTES TUORUM VISITA, 'Visit the minds of Thy people',  the second line of the Latin hymn to the Holy Ghost {Veni Creator Spiritus}).

Above the Angel downspouts (which also carry letters) is the 33-letter gable frieze, QUIS SEPARABIT NOS A CHARITATE CHRISTI, 'Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?' (from St Paul, Epistle to the Romans 8.35). This continues on the other faces.

The three gables carry plaques, left a Dove with Chicks, centre a sundial, and right a Pelican in Her Piety. These are both symbols of God's care for his children and Christ's sacrifice at the Crucifixion. The gable pediments are edged with symbolic carvings of flames, figures, heads and animals.

Above the gable plaques are two numbers 1641 and 1626 and the words NON MIHI, part of the inscription from Ecclesiasticus 33.5.18, RESPICITE NON MIHI SOLI LABORAVI ('Look, I have not worked only for myself').

On the central chimney stack on this side there is also the word ECCE, and the Agnes Dei carrying a cross, references to the ceremony of Mass, 'Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world'.
