Little blue Heron

            One of the most useful tools for identifying an American heron is its bill color. This Little Blue Heron has a distinctive bill color.  Although immature Little Blue Herons are white, and breeding plumaged Little Blues have a reddish head and neck, all of the stages have the same two-toned bill.
