Ghost Town Studded Door - a photo on Flickriver

            From 1867 to about 1891, Fayette company town processed the iron ore from the mines of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, producing "pig iron".

 Today, nineteen of the historic buildings of Fayette have been restored to varying degrees. This studded door hangs from one of the buildings.

Alexander Pappas Hi Alex, thank you for your great question. Old historic doors, like this one, were heavy, thick solid wood doors. Often they were double layered with the inner layer of a different type of wood. The studs nailed the two layers together, like modern-day plywood. Today many doors are hollow with veneers on the outer layer and if studded, it is just for decoration (in other words a waste of nails LoL).
