Shy White-breasted Nuthatch - a photo on Flickriver

            As snow began to melt, a small area of matted grass was revealed on Old Mission Lighthouse lawn. There must have been old seeds there, because occasionally a bird would land, peck at the moist vegetation, and find a small morsel. This White-breasted Nuthatch would watch from this perch, then fly to a more distant branch. He repeated this several times, but never went to look for a seed, and eventually flew off, leaving the seeds for the more adventurous birds.
