Crowded Overlook at Waimea Canyon on Kauai, Hawaii (Pre-Covid Era)

            At 10 miles long, 1 mile wide and 3,000 feet deep, Waimea is the largest canyon in the Pacific.  It is located on the western side of the island of Kauai in Hawaii.  Waimea Canyon was carved by the constant flow of water in the Waimea River which is fed by Kauai's central peak, Mount Waialeale, the wettest place on earth, with an average rainfall of 452 inches per year.  Waimea is Hawaiian for "reddish water," a reference to the erosion of the canyon's red soil by the persistent flow from the mile-high, nearly always shrouded Mount Waialeale.
