Poison (?) berries, Economy, Nova Scotia

            Commercial blueberry growing is a huge industry in Nova Scotia, with many thousands of acres under cultivation. We were driving to Economy Falls in Colchester County when we encountered this field of "poison" berries about three miles up River Phillip Road from the bay road. Some fields are very remote and theft of berries probably does occur. The berries in this field were as thick and large as any I've seen anywhere, and a trespassing "night picker" could fill a pickup truck in no time at all just hand raking. Some land owners will modify their signs to reflect the possibility that "something" unpleasant might have been applied to the berries to make prospective thieves think twice about snatching any.  We pause here for around 20 minutes to grab some photos. I did "test" a handful of berries growing alongside the road, to assess their "poisonous" qualities. Some berries were almost the size of your thumbnail, and whatever "poison" was applied tasted great.
