Young Fallow Deer, Newcastle, Texas - a photo on Flickriver

            Taken in late March of 2007, this young buck had his first set of antlers (spikes) the previous year.  Here he's growing his first set of branched antlers. The smaller bumps closer to the center of his head wil be his brow tines.
I was working around my property clipping back young Mesquite growth and saw this guy watching me, probably wondering what i was doing. I had given him a handful of deer corn earlier and he might have thought he was about to get some more. 
I've tried (and failed) to identify the flowering plants that he's bedded down in. It seems to grow almost everywhere. The deer don't browse on it, but the taller plants provide good cover for them to rest in without being seen.
