Tangy Loch (1)

This view contains rather more than at first might appear. It is taken from high above Kintyre (only about a mile north from where Paul McCartney used to live, at High Park Farm), looking out west towards the Atlantic. Along the horizon from the right are the Paps of Jura, with the islands of Gigha ("Geea") and Cara just visible over the forestry. Left of Jura, the horizon is covered by Islay ("Eye-la"), which ends at the Mull of Oa, scene of the sinking of the SS Tuscania at the hands of a German U-boat in 1918.

The smudges on the far left horizon are Ireland - probably Rathlin Island.

Nearer at hand we have Tangy Loch, with a small island in it, on which stood a 16th century 'fortified dwelling'. Beyond that stand the turbines of the Tangy wind farm, pulsating with renewable energy (except there's no wind today!) and a vast acreage of renewable forest. Kintyre's a very renewable place!

It is of course the wee island I am here to look at - hopefully without upsetting the couple fly-fishing in a boat, just left of the island!
