D1041 at Swindon works - a photo on Flickriver

            On a visit to Swindon Works on 15 March 1980 we found Class 52 "Western" no. D1041 inside a building I noted at the time as the "stock shed". Another Class 52, no. D1015 was present at Swindon on this day. D1041 is named "Western Prince", but it is not carrying nameplates in my photo, on one side at least.

It was built at Crewe Works, and was new in October 1962. D1041 lasted until the end of Class 52 operations on BR, and was withdrawn from service in February 1977. It was purchased for preservation in May 1977, and can be found o the East Lancs Railway.
