97407 at Crewe - 2

            I was on a Railrover ticket in July 1985, during the Crewe Engineering Blockade, and spent some time around Crewe hoping to get some decent photos of the 4 Class 40s that had been restored to service (as Class 97s) for the pws trains needed for the Blockade. I wasn't very successful, as all 4 of them seemed to spend all their time in the most inaccessible sidings in the Crewe area. But I did manage to track down 97407 at Crewe South on 17 July 1985, before it sped off light engine to hide from sight again.

97407 was, of course, the former 40012, and carried the Class 97 number from May 1985 - April 1986. It is now preserved.
