IL PORTO CANALE.

Situato nei pressi dell' antico insediamento romano di Ad Novas, "Porto Cesenatico" nasce ufficialmente all' inizio del Trecento, quando Cesena scava un canale per l’approdo delle barche e pone una rocca a sua difesa. Lo scalo marittimo diviene sempre più importante, grazie anche alle opere eseguite durante la signoria Malatestiana, nel XV secolo, per impedire l'insabbiamento del porto canale. Tali condizioni resero Cesenatico, che per un brevissimo periodo fu anche sotto il dominio della Repubblica di Venezia, un importante centro di traffico merci.
Il porto canale si snoda attraverso il centro ed ospita, in suggestiva coabitazione, barche storiche e moderni natanti, reti di pescatori e grida di gabbiani; le voci dei marinai si mescolano alla vita del centro cittadino, in un luogo che può fregiarsi dell' appellativo di Porto Leonardesco per il rilievo portuale e le soluzioni architettoniche elaborate da Leonardo da Vinci nel settembre 1502. La vita quotidiana di questa "città senza piazza" si svolge ancora prevalentemente lungo le banchine, ed intessuta di presenze e rimandi al lavoro marittimo di un tempo: ed è veramente spettacolare la mostra galleggiante delle imbarcazioni storiche a vela del Museo della Marineria, che d'inverno diventano sede di uno dei più insoliti presepi d' Italia.
