PIAZZA DELLA MINERVA.


«Ma li hanno presi questi delinquenti?». Si va ai piedi dell'Elefantino per fotografare lo sfregio e indignarsi, per inquadrare il marmo ferito e maledire i vandali di piazza della Minerva. La statua del Bernini è mutilata, manca un pezzo della zanna sinistra e adesso si cerca di capire cosa è successo nella notte tra domenica e lunedì. La mattina dopo lo scempio è un pellegrinaggio di turisti e romani al monumento restaurato quattro anni fa e già offeso dai barbari, l'ennesimo oltraggio ai tesori di Roma.
Nelle ore più desolate piazza della Minerva viene presa d'assalto da chi vaga nel centro di Roma in cerca di un angolo dove poter fare come gli pare. Bere e lasciare le bottiglie davanti alle vetrine dei negozi, fare la pipì sulle serrande, giocare a pallone, arrampicarsi sull'elefantino. «Salgono sulla statua per toccare il sedere all'elefante, dicono che porti fortuna», Michelle lavora nel negozio Schiunnach, lì davanti. Un gioco, un rito, la scalata alla scultura del Bernini. Povera piazza della Minerva, «abbandonata», protestano i commercianti. «Tutti i vigili al Pantheon e nessuno qui, può succedere qualsiasi cosa». Ed è successa. «Scemi», così li chiama l'edicolante, «salgono sulla statua per farsi le foto». Poi ecco che un pezzo viene giù.
