SAN CANDIDO. CHIESA FRANCESCANA - a photo on Flickriver

            UN ESEMPIO DI SOBRIETA'.

Le chiese erette nel periodo della Controriforma dagli ordini dei Francescani e dei Cappuccini si distinguono per semplicità e rigore nettamente dalle tradizionali collegiate. A progettare questa chiesa fu il frate francescano Vitus Rastbichler. Nella rinuncia a un alto campanile, a volte complesse e a soffitti affrescati si riflette l’ideale di povertà proprio dell’ordine.
Il disadorno edificio sacro con il suo modesto campanile, semplici volte e privo di affreschi, fu inaugurato solo nel 1697. A lungo i canonici rifiutarono l’insediamento dei francescani. Temevano che questo ordine religioso, con il suo ideale di povertà, attirasse i mendicanti.

AN EXAMPLE OF SOBRIETY.

The churches built in the Counter-Reformation period by the Franciscan and Capuchin orders are clearly distinguished from the traditional collegiate churches for simplicity and rigor. The Franciscan friar Vitus Rastbichler designed this church. The order's ideal of poverty is reflected in the renunciation of a high bell tower, sometimes complex and with frescoed ceilings.
The unadorned sacred building with its modest bell tower, simple vaults and devoid of frescoes, was only inaugurated in 1697. For a long time the canons refused the installation of the Franciscans. They feared that this religious order, with its ideal of poverty, would attract beggars.
