FRIULI SCONOSCIUTO... - a photo on Flickriver

IL CASTELLO DI RIVE D'ARCANO

Il Castello d'Arcano superiore, magnificamente conservato e tuttora abitato, ancora oggi ha del magico per il sito isolato in cui è stato costruito.
Sorgeva in origine nei pressi della chiesetta di San Mauro, sulle rive del Corno. Per motivi difensivi e strategici venne successivamente ricostruito nel luogo dove tutt'oggi si trova. Gli ampliamenti strutturali probabilmente risalgono al XIII secolo. È certo che dal XII secolo appartenne alla famiglia dei Tricano, marescalchi e gonfalonieri ereditari del patriarca di Aquileia.
Il castello ancora oggi presenta il suo suggestivo aspetto medievale, con le cortine merlate alla guelfa, la caratteristica doppia torre e il possente mastio con, in sommità, un'elegante fila di bifore tardo romaniche.

THE CASTLE OF RIVE D'ARCANO

The magnificently preserved and still inhabited Upper Arcano Castle retains a magical atmosphere due to its isolated location.
It originally stood near the small church of San Mauro, on the banks of the Corno River. For defensive and strategic reasons, it was later rebuilt on its current site. The structural additions likely date back to the 13th century. It is certain that from the 12th century onward, it belonged to the Tricano family, hereditary marshals and gonfaloniers of the Patriarch of Aquileia.
The castle still retains its evocative medieval appearance, with its Guelph-style crenellated curtain walls, characteristic double tower, and imposing keep topped by an elegant row of late-Romanesque mullioned windows.
