DOLOMITI. CORTINA D'AMPEZZO - a photo on Flickriver

            LA CONCA CIRCONDATA DALLE VETTE.

La conca di Cortina è immersa nel cuore delle Dolomiti Orientali, quella parte cioè di Dolomiti compresa tra la valle del Piave e la valle del Cordévole. Le fanno corona alcuni tra i più famosi massicci rocciosi, come le possenti Tofane, il Pomagagnòn o il Monte Cristallo. Alcuni arcipelaghi di cuspidi rocciose, come le Cinque Torri, il Nuvolau o la Croda da Lago, spuntano barocchi e nervosi in punti strategici, mentre altri colossi più o meno celebrati vegliano alla periferia: Pelmo, Antelao, Sorapìss, le Tre Cime di Lavaredo, i Cadini di Misurina, il gruppo dei Fanes e della Croda Rossa d’Ampezzo appaiono e scompaiono a seconda che ci si allontani da un centro ideale della grande conca. In pochi chilometri lo spettacolo paesaggistico cambia più volte e rapidamente.

THE CONCA SURROUNDED BY THE PEAKS.

The Cortina basin is immersed in the heart of the Eastern Dolomites, that is, that part of the Dolomites between the Piave valley and the Cordévole valley. It is surrounded by some of the most famous rock massifs, such as the mighty Tofane, Pomagagòn or Monte Cristallo. Some archipelagos of rocky peaks, such as the Cinque Torri, the Nuvolau or the Croda da Lago, sprout baroque and nervous in strategic points, while other more or less celebrated giants watch over the periphery: Pelmo, Antelao, Sorapìss, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the Cadini di Misurina, the Fanes group and the Croda Rossa d'Ampezzo appear and disappear depending on whether you move away from an ideal center of the large basin. In a few kilometres, the landscape changes rapidly and several times.
