Poole Technical College Phase 2 drawings and plans

Drawings and plans of Poole Technical College Phase 2 drawn up in 1962.

The architect was Enrico De Pierro whose design won the competition to built phase 1 which was completed in 1956 or 57. He then designed phase 2 with the main lobby, canteen, hall and what is usually known as the South Wing with the older part being classed as the West Wing. A separate building of work shops was also extended.

There might be some minor differences inside compared to what was built but the drawing of the front is it would have looked.

Interestingly there are plans and drawings of an alternate design with a four story South Wing instead. I am not sure why one design was chosen over the other.

The architecture of both phase 1 and phase 2 is very modernist and industrial looking. It also said that the main lobby with it's central staircase in phase 2 is supposed to resemble a deck on a ship acknowledging Poole's Martine industry but this seems to be mostly un noticed.

Phase 2 was completed in 1967 with other parts of the site built in 1970 (Engineering), 1974, 1983, 1989, (Construction/STEM), 1997 (gallery), 2001 (dance studio) and 2011 (art and design) while various huts and come and gone. The buildings where re-clad in 2013 and a new wing to replace the Constitution Hill site was completed in 2015.
