The old truss bridge at Lyndon,IL. was constructed in 1894 for a cost of about $20K.The overseer of the construction was paid a whopping $56 for his time.The bridge became a financial burden on the county to maintain and was closed in 1980.It was scheduled for demolition in 1995 before a local preservation group got together to save it.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.The bridge is still can be walked,but is a little dicey in places.Frequent flooding still puts the old bridge at risk and the county map lists the bridge as "abandoned"....
